BIOGRAPHY

1964 At the age of nine, Arthur Ebeling starts to play the guitar.

1973 Arthur joins his first band: Sail (the predecessor of Sail-Joia) together with Bertus Borgers.

1975 In 1975 he performs during several months with the funk formation Rosa King & Upside Down. In that same period Arthur joins the Groep 1850 for one gig, but it is this concert that appears on the last album from Groep 1850, Live On Tour (1976).

1981 In 1981 pianist Jan Robijns asks him to join join Capsones, resulting in the album Bah in the beginning of 1983. Together With De Dijk singer Huub van der Lubbe Ebeling and Robijns form the rock & roll-band Big Shot.

1984 Ebeling falls of his bicycle, resulting in a concussion and a one year retirement from music. 'Because of this narrowed consciousness, I only wanted to play rock &roll after this period', explains Ebeling when he raises Jump! Dickie Jump! in 1984. This is the name Ebeling and pianist Robijns use when they perform at the music and theatre circus Boulevard Of Broken Dreams. Together with Christian Muiser (drums) the band releases a single in the Rockhouse-label. They are joined by double bass player Peer Wassenaar. The band's name refers to the song Jumps, Giggles And Shouts by Gene Vincent & The Blue Caps (1956). One of the Blue Caps shoots 'Jump! Dickie Jump Jump!' announcing a short solo by the 16 years old drummer Dickie Harrel. Guitarist Cliff Gallup, Blue Cap in 1956 and 1957, has a big influence on Ebeling's guitar playing. Both of them play the Gretsch guitar, sharing an unknown dynamic and laidback technique. The first album (Rockhouse '86) features many covers by (a.o.) Gene Vincent, John Lee Hooker and Ray Charles. The second album Goin' Out (Idiot '87) consists entirely of own compositions. Jump! Dickie Jump! dffers from all the other rockabilly and psychobilly bands of the eighties because of the superior musical techniques. But already in this era it becomes very clear that Ebeling's musical interest goes far beyond rockabilly…

1988 This year marks the beginning of Arthur's solo career. Always at his side, is double bass player Peer Wassenaar, who played with Blue Planet, Galaxy-'lin, Plant and Bram Vermeulen.

1993 The cd Simple Man is well received by both press and public. On this album Ebeling focuses more on rhythm & blues. But he also proves that he can write catchy melodies, for instance in the song Maria which is often played on the radio.

1995 A lot more variation can be heard on his second solo album Piggy Dog (Dureco '95). From hillbilly, rhythm & blues and ballades to a song that cleary reflects Ebeling's appreciation for Tom Waits.

1997 In 1997 Arthur Ebeling & Co tour the UK three times. In April and May they play at a jazz festival in New Orleans. Every first Sunday of the month he perfumes at the Café Ebeling in Amsterdam, a bar that was named after the great singer!

1999 Basta record releases Ebeling's third solo album, A Rainy Night In Paris, filled with raw rhythm & blues. This album means a new tour in August and September in England, a country that welcomes him with open arms.

2002 A new album is born Three years later. The Spanish accordion player Alberto Fernandez can be heard as a special guest.

2004 Due to Peer Wassenaars busy schedule, Ronald de Jong starts playing with Arthur.

2009 You Handsome Devil is released followed by intensive tours and live appearances on Dutch national telivision. On this cd Ronald de Jong makes a firts appearance on Double Bass.

You Handsome Devil (Basta 2009)
'You Handsome Devil' is Arthur's 3rd solo album for Basta. Previously, Basta released 'A Rainy Night in Paris’ (1998) and ‘Dreams’ (2003). This new album holds 14 lovely songs, all written by Ebeling and most varying in style. As Arthur describes it himself, it is his version of American music, plus some more. A mix of rhythm&blues, rock, country blues and a touch of jazz. Perfect music to vacuumclean by, or to be cheered up by in general. Did Johnny Cash hear trumpets for 'Ring of Fire', Ebeling heard a lady's choir for 'Lonely' and bagpipes for 'Far Away'. The subjects are quite varying, but in the end they are all lovesongs after all, and that's what it's all about for Ebeling.

It's Quiet Here
Sway
Dreams
Beat Up Dag
The Landscape Of A Woman
Dreams (Basta 2002)
Arthur's latest album. Delightful range of musical styles and a unique mix of impeccable blues-edged playing and laid-back entertainment. Great songs like: It's quiet here, Sway, La Gomera and Beat up Dog. You'll admire Arthur's song-writing skills who can rhyme Gomera with umbrella and who writes a passionate love song devoted to Dream Lady, but somewhere in there has the sassy cheek to include a line about his teddy bear.!

A Rainy Night In Paris
5 Million Songs
Chet
3 Cigarettes In The Ashtray
Lap
A Rainy Night in Paris (Basta 1999)
Impessive, raw Rhythm & Blues. A lot of musicians appear on this album, like Peter Smid, Jay Jay Juliano, Arend Bouwmeester and of course Peer Wassenaar. Listen to the political song Beach, to the fingerstyle masterpiece Chet, to Patsy Cline's Three Cigarettes in the Ashtray and the chanson A Rainy Night in Paris and once again you'll discover that Arthur's style is unique and of maximium authenticity. It took almost a year, and it has resulted into an impressive and honest collection of pure rhythm 'n blues songs.

Baby I'm A Rocker
Gardenia
Bad Guy
Piggy Dog
I Tried It
Piggy Dog (Dureco 1995)

Maria
Simple Man
The Lord Has Found Me
Lovely Loretta
Trouble
Simple Man (Dureco 1993)
Arthur's first solo-project with the radiohit Maria. Very popular album. Listen to beautiful songs like Puppet on a String (with mr. Ebeling on piano) and the great guitarwork on Lovely Loretta. A Gospel song like The Lord has found Me is a hommage to Ray Charles. Arthur is accompanied by good-old Peer Wassenaar on upright bass. Impressive horn actions by the Hot HaarlemmerDijk Horns. Arthur is doing Trouble again...
